What is salary sacrifice?

A salary sacrifice arrangement might sound a bit scary but it isn’t, the idea behind it is actually quite simple:

1. You give up part of your salary before tax each month

2. In return, your employer gives you a non-cash benefit – in this case you can lease a new car of your choice

3. When you return your car, your salary goes back to normal

Firstly, you need to know whether your workplace has a salary sacrifice scheme in place – if they haven’t, why not ask them? NHS Fleet Solutions is the UK's original and largest public sector salary sacrifice scheme. We currently provide our scheme to over 300 organisations and we can offer help and advice when making the decision to sign-up.

The scheme works by you leasing a new car for a fixed term, we offer 24- and 36-month contracts. You pay for the lease from your salary before income tax and National Insurance are taken off – so you’ll save the tax you’d have paid on the lease. If you’re a member of your employers’ pension scheme, you’ll also possibly pay less in pension contributions.

What could you save?

You’ll make savings via salary sacrifice - by paying less tax, you’ll pay less overall than if you’d leased a car yourself away from work, and with NHS Fleet Solutions there’s so much more included in your monthly cost:

• Insurance (for you and up to 4 additional drivers)

• Road tax

• Routine servicing

• Breakdown cover

• Tyre cover

• Windscreen cover

Opting for a fully electric car means you’ll also have the option of adding a home charging point to your order, which you would also pay for via monthly salary sacrifice. On top of all this, we offer exclusive special offers where you can lease your dream car for a lot less.
